Recruiter 101
Recruiting as a science has grown to represent a very important part of the human resource landscape. The human resource department would not be a fully functional component of any company without the highly skilled representation of the recruiting function. Its importance arises from the fact that every company wants to have the best possible talent available in the market. For which it needs recruiters with exceptional skill and a keen eye to spot attract and hire the right candidate.
Key areas of recruiting 1. Representing the company Since it’s the recruiters responsibility to attract new talent, it lies in his or her hands to represent the company in the right manner. A recruiter needs to first be familiar with all the companies policies and procedures. He would need to be well aware of the complete ecosystem of the organization, being groomed in the culture and values to be represented. Being thoroughly immersed in the corporate culture to be represented to the candidate. The duty falls on the recruiter to make appropriate representation of the company to the candidate. Since the first point of contact is the recruiter the recruiter would need to adequately represent his company 2. Finding the Right Fit How does one find the right candidate. Before speaking of attracting talent and retaining talent we first need to address the issue of finding the right candidate and what best practices need to be followed
A. Industry Mapping. By industry mapping we mean creating a list of companies that are in the same industry. When this list is ready you would then need to map similar job roles representing the position that needs to be filled. Once you have a list of people who are working in the same position from other companies. You could then narrow down the field of players. Thereby generating a list of possible candidates. This however applies when you need to head hunt. If you do not need to head hunt for the position then the usual practice is to login to a job portal and find resumes of people looking for the job you are offering. B. Searching job portals. If the position you need to hire for does not need extensive head hunting and you are able to find the right candidate on a job portal. Then the simplest thing to do would be to gain access to a job portal. Login and begin your search. At this point it would be important to speak about a few pointers when using a job portal. Once you login how do you find matching resumes. You need need to rely heavily on Key words. The best possible way is to look up the job description that you have. Pick out key words that best represent the position that needs to be filled. Enter these key words into the search bar and then search. Generally if you use the title of the position that needs to be filled with not yield the best results. It is similar to using a search engine. Use of key words is very important 3. Attracting Talent What goes into attracting the right candidate? Are there any rules to be followed and pointers that are helpful?. Well at this point it is best observed that the personality of the recruiter plays a very important role. How you may ask is this exemplified. Once you have spoken to the candidate. Mostly you would find the person needs some amount of convincing to go ahead with the complete application process. This scenario may not arise too much during times of recession where people are without a job and looking for one. Either ways it does play a very very important part. The recruiter needs to be prepared to answer all kinds of questions without getting hassled. Since it is the recruiter who is the first point of contact, he would need to be thorough in his knowledge of the company and of a pleasant disposition. Many times candidates are not completely convinced about the company because the candidate has not been treated well during the recruiting process. Many times you find after people have joined a company. For years to come they will talk about their first experience with the company which would more than not be the experience with the recruiter. That experience would either be sour or a joyful one depending on how the complete recruitment process has been handled. Therefore it is important to keep in mind you might be an aggressive recruiter which is very good for you and your company but you should also be able to multitask when it comes to company representation. |
